NOTES
The year is still young, so I thought to show you
my first attempt of painting a baby,
one of my grand children, here "Four Days Old."
Last year Sept. he went to Kindergarden,
and did not want to go back home!
The measurements with babies are different -
their heads are 1/5th of their height.
shadows give form to the face
and make the cheek and forehead look larger
The color of the "Little Boy Blue"
was still very red at the time, and his limbs long!
He's laying on a round green inflatable pillow.
which was a perfect backdrop
for the fiercely red of the face.
When attempting a new subject
I often venture out in pastel. With this painting medium,
which is like colored chalk sticks (am not referring to light colors)
I use my drawing skill as a safety blanket :)
my next new venture would be to paint a child
between 6 and 12 years old

I love all the details, especially the folds in his skin and lots of beautiful dark hair. What a lovely portrait!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Actually a baby like this, is easier to capture than one with a perfect complexion, etc."_
DeleteA wonderful keepsake Jesh - you are very gifted.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Valerie, Am glad I painted it then with him in front of me. Would be so much harder, to paint from a pic!
DeleteI love the shades you used for his skin, and you captured that spiky baby hair perfectly.
ReplyDeleteBee, thanks for visiting here! Enjoyed reading all the comments you got about the irritating titles:):)
DeleteI exaggerated the features of the spiky hair and the red face, and am glad I did, for that disappeared with the following years:)
Not having seen the child, I think you did an excellent job. I love art, especially oils. I have several and a few watercolors. I did not paint them.
ReplyDeleteLV, am glad you mentioned this. I'll go to your blog to give you a direct lnk to my oils:)

DeleteYour painting in watercolor is awesome. Portraits are so difficult. Good for you, I love this sweet baby.
ReplyDeletexo. Jeanne
Thank you for visiting me. Did you see it is a pastel? They have the pencil-like strokes a watercolor doesn't have. Visit you soon:)
DeleteA wonderful painting! So easy to guess an approximate age for this little one! Love the hands and the amazing facial expression!
ReplyDeleteGemma, thank you for your kind comments -those were all the things I wanted to come accross. Have a great week:)

Phenomenon, does it make a difference? At my blogs it's always the newest pic.
DeleteHave a great weekend!
Beautiful! You did a wonderful job. Do you take a picture first and go from there, or did you do the main part when he was asleep? I sure wish that I could draw.
ReplyDeleteKathy M.
i started when he was asleep and finished at home with his photo -so it's like I would do a landscape painting. I like it when people ask specific questions!
DeleteDo you know that drawing is practicing blood, sweat and tears? Most artists would say it's 98% practice and 2% talent, so actually anyone could become an artist (and many do in their later years of life)
Muito expressivo, gosto da técnica. Beijos, feliz green day!

ReplyDeleteThis is awesome. I studied art and never could get a good grasp on working in pastels or watercolors. You did a terrific job!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend!
Jackie, don't give up!Remember, 95% practice and 5% talent? Hope that whatever yo dream of, you will pursue!
DeleteA lovely pastel portrait, it is said that baby portraits are the most difficult to paint to get the look of a baby. You have done it very well.
ReplyDeleteThank you Joy! Am happy you like it:)
